The fishing has been slow to good at best with some very good days, but they have been few and far between. I know it sounds bad to report such news, but Ronda and I are all about telling the truth. Please do not be swayed by others who might tell you that the fishing has been excellent, because it has not been. To say that it has been “excellent” fishing is a stretch and a figment of ones’ imagination. That is not to say that some better days might be forthcoming. We have had one of the worst May months that I can remember in terms of weather. It was cold and rainy most of the month, and that put hatches way behind. Water levels due to all the rain have rendered some river sections difficult to wade or impossible to wade at all. Thankfully, that has changed in the last few days, and the rivers are slowly becoming wadeable again. Even the brown drakes which are usually in their peak on this date are not going yet. In the next day or so, I suspect that they will be on the river on certain stretches, and for sure by the weekend they should be going strong with the forecast for much warmer temps spurning them on by the end of the week. In the meantime, there will be some very good sulfur spinner drops occurring this week, which will get some nice sized fish going. On a special note, take care in releasing fish and try not to play them out too long. In addition, too many pics have become the death of trout over the last few years, especially when hoisting them high and out of the water, which in turn puts a lot of pressure on their internal organs. Try taking pics with the fish, at a minimum, at least partially in the water. This is becoming a new, positive trend in picture taking. I know it’s not always possible, but give it a try if the opportunity arises to do so. Have fun out here, and take it easy…
